My Goals for 2022!

Today is December 26, 2021, and there are six days until 2022. 2021 has been a year of growth for me; I never thought I would arrive at such an incredible point in my life. However, I don't want to stop here. By writing down my goals for this coming year, I am making them real. This way, I am more likely to commit to them and remember where I came from when I made them. Here are my 15 most important goals for 2022!

  1. Make New Friends

    1. This is such an important goal for me in 2022. You can learn so much just from talking with others and observing their perspectives on different topics. Also, many times the people you are already friends with have similar beliefs to you (hence why y’all are friends), SOOO… branching out and talking to new people can be mind-opening and life-changing. Besides, it is never bad to have too many people who love you!

  2. Get Out of My Comfort Zone

    1. I am ecstatic to try new things. In the past, I have had so many new experiences on my to-do list, but I always found a reason not to do them. NO MORE ANXIETY in 2022! We only live once so this is our only chance to take that risk. I’ve already started taking risks this year with this blog!

  3. Grow In My Relationship with God

    1. Jesus has walked with me through all of my ups and downs, and I want him right here with me as I dive into 2022! I plan to grow our relationship by devoting more time to my faith. I am going to read my Bible more and reflect on what I read. I am hoping that Mir’s Here! will motivate me to write my reflections out. I want to pray more often, not just before meals and when I go to sleep. I plan to keep God close not just in times of need, but even when everything is working out my way. Finally, I plan to be more deliberate with my actions and words so that people look at me and say, “She is living like Jesus!”

  4. Read 25 Books

    1. In 2021, I read 16 books. I love reading because it is an escape from my day-to-day life and still teaches lessons that can be used in the real world. I plan to read and learn even more in 2022!

  5. Be Healthier

    1. My body is a gift from God; I need to love it! In 2022, I will get more sleep, drink more water, and make sure I’m eating enough good food. Also, this is soooo typical for a New Year’s Resolution, but I hope I will actually use my gym membership. Even if I don’t use it every day, I plan to still be active by walking, doing yoga, or playing sports!

  6. Create

    1. I loveeee art, but I feel like I never have time to do it. Drawing gives me a way to express how I am feeling at a certain moment and gives me a distraction when I feel down. I am going to make time for the things that I love in this upcoming year. By the end of 2022, I want to have created a binder of all of my smallest pieces so that I can reminisce on where I left my mark.

  7. Travel and Learn

    1. You can learn something important no matter where you go, whether it’s out of the country or in your own state. I want to learn about new cultures, taste new foods, and see new landscapes in 2022.

  8. Try My Best In School

    1. This just means I need to try MY best, not THE best.

  9. Keep Up With This Blog

    1. I am so excited to keep up with this blog because it is going to document how much I grow throughout this next year. It gives me a place to put my thoughts and emotions into words.

  10. Go To College and Grow!

    1. I don’t completely know what to expect when I go to college in the fall, but I know that I want to make the most of it! Wherever I end up will be my home for the next four years, so I am so excited to see and learn new things. I can’t wait to meet so many new people and learn from them!

  11. Forgive More

    1. This is a huge goal for me in 2022. I feel like I waste so much time holding grudges because I am scared I am going to get hurt when in reality, that’s what is really hurting me. Just because I forgive someone doesn’t mean that I have to forget what they did or let them do it again. Forgiveness just replaces anger with love.

  12. Be More Understanding

    1. Everyone is fighting a battle that we don’t know about. In 2022, I will be more understanding of those who don’t agree with me or those who do things that hurt me.

  13. Confidence

    1. Confidence comes from the inside, not the outside. People glow when they love themselves! I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139: 14)!

  14. Be Nicer To My Hair

    1. I miss my curls! SOOO in 2022, I am trying to use less heat while styling my hair. I might even get Olaplex, and if I do, I will for sure let y’all know how it works for me!

  15. Prioritize Mental Health

    1. Last but definitely not least, in 2022, I will prioritize my mental health. I have made so much progress in this department during 2021, but it doesn’t stop there. In August of 2020, I truly believed that I would never feel happiness or joy again. Even though I really saw no future for myself, I didn’t give up and reached out for help. I started going to therapy and seeing doctors, and now I am in a great place that I never imagined myself to be.

    2. This being said, I am not meaning that I expect to never have bad days in 2022. I still forget that sleep is more important than school and that it’s okay to not be perfect. However, in 2022, I am going to feel my emotions and treat them like temporary visitors. I will take mental health days when I feel overwhelmed. I am not going to overbook my schedule to the point where I don’t have time to sleep or even think. I will remind myself of the lies my brain is telling me when I feel anxious and sad. When the feeling comes back and I have no hope, I will remember that there really are good days. I have overcome it before and will do it again. I will meditate and pray and start my days off full of positive energy. I will not bottle up my emotions. I will be kind to my mind.

    3. I have some new ideas that I plan to use to monitor my mind in 2022. For example, I plan to keep a log of my emotions throughout each day. This way, I can recognize patterns and triggers. I also plan to be kind to my mind with an energy-giving diet.

Goals are important because they prompt a healthy change in our lives and promote focus and motivation. However, it is so important to recognize our own limits. If our goals ever become too overwhelming, they can actually become more detrimental than helpful. This is why it is important for all of us to notice when focus turns to obsession and dedication turns to a burden. I wish nothing but the best for everyone in 2022! I am praying for each and every one of the people who read this!
